![]() The couple had also lost two sons at birth due to heart defects. They lived in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, and had two biological children, Kyle and Devon. At about 5-weeks-old, Colin was adopted by Rick and Teresa Kaepernick. The identity of his biological father is unknown. So, let’s find out where they might be today, shall we?Ĭolin was born to Heidi Russo in 1987 when she was just 19-years-old. ![]() Now, Netflix’s ‘Colin in Black & White’ charts his teenage years as a promising baseball and football player and his journey trying to fit in as a multiracial child adopted by white parents, Rick and Teresa. Ultimately, the show leaves you with the following questions: His parents probably aren’t blatantly racist or they would not have adopted a Black son, so why do they look down on his cultural interest? How can we educate all students on diversity of appearance? How can we reform the police system so that racist, unreasonable arrests/ pull-overs stop happening? This work was a powerful way to open up conversations about what we can do as students, athletes, future parents, and future employees or employers, to minimize that gap of judgment between cultural identities.ĭuVernay A. The show’s team does a fantastic job at leaving the viewer with many cringey, inherently racist scenes that make you want to fix the injustice for the sake of everyone involved. There are many encounters of culture and identity throughout the series as the main character aspires to become quarterback of his football team. Her son is different from her, making her want to change Colin’s cultural identity. She does not want to draw attention to it because even though she is not blatantly racist, she still carries a lot of institutionalized bias as a white woman. Colin’s mother would rather have her son cut his hair short, instead of embracing his culture with appropriate hair, because she is trying to minimize the fact that he is not white. This is similar to the way that in Lisa Ko’s The Leavers, the main character Deming’s name is changed to Daniel in order to sound more “American”. These are examples of terrible situations that Colin and his parents are put in, simply because he is Black and racist outsiders are quick to make assumptions.Īlthough his mother is pretty insensitive to Black culture, such as in the way she refers to Colin’s braids as “unprofessional” and “trashy”, the viewer gets to witness how Colin’s parents adjust to these racial experiences. ![]() Or, when a cop pulls Colin over when he’s driving with his (white) parents in the car for no reason, just to make sure the white couple was “okay”. For example, a doorman asks his parents, “Are you two okay?” when getting into the elevator with a Black boy who is their son. Colin is black, yet he is raised by white parents who do not see the world from his point of view. The show flips between his childhood and him narrating his adulthood in the “eyes” of his youth. Directed by Colin Kaepernick, it is a personal narrative of demonstrated injustice throughout his childhood. CCoThe new Netflix series, Colin In Black and White, does a splendid job capturing the harsh reality of racism that can take place even within a family unit. ![]()

Now you've got the right amount of paint in the correct finish and color of choice, you're ready to take the next step in painting a wall. Painting in dim or harsh artificial lighting can easily result in patches and imperfections that only show up in glaring natural light.' 5. Paint in natural lightįor best results, always paint in natural, not artificial or low, light.Ī Dulux expert advises: 'Whether you're rushing to get the job done just as the sun goes down or it’s dark and stormy outside, it’s always better to wait for bright, natural light to paint your rooms. To ensure a smooth finish, a microfiber roller sleeve is best.' 4. You will need: a pot of paint a paint brush and paint roller primer soap and water for cleaning a painting tray a dust sheet painter's masking tape and, if you have high ceilings, a roller extension pole is a good idea.īenjamin Moore's Helen Shaw says: 'When it comes to the must-have tools, a firm favorite amongst consumers is to use a roller for painting walls and a 2in brush for cutting in around the edges. When painting a wall, there's nothing worse than realizing too late that you haven't got all the tools and materials you'll need to do the job properly. 'For example, mid-sheen and gloss finishes reflect light, while kitchen and bathrooms require moisture and stain-resistant qualities.' 3. 'The right paint finish for different surfaces and specific results is the key to a perfect result,' say the experts at Dulux (opens in new tab). Whether you're looking for organic, neutral or bold, statement living room color schemes, picking up a selection of sample pots is always a good idea to see how the hue reacts to the light in your space.Īnd don't forget the finish. If you have large windows or many doors or built-in cabinets, you can deduct this from the total to avoid buying too much. Although we would recommend that if you have particularly tall ceilings, it’s best to measure this rather than use the 2.5m estimate. 'Most rooms have a standard 2.5m high ceiling, so if you simply multiply the perimeter by 2.5, you will have the total in meters squared. You can then do the same to estimate the width. Then add two times the length and two times the width together to get the perimeter. A loose and easy guide for this is step it out – one step for an adult is about 1m, so start by standing against one wall and pacing out to the opposite wall. She continues: 'Firstly, we recommend starting by measuring or estimating the length of the room. 'As a guide, it’s key to bear in mind that most paints will cover about 10-12sq m per litre. ' 'There is no "average room", so it’s important to roughly work out how much paint you will need to avoid buying too much,' says Helen Shaw, Director at Benjamin Moore (opens in new tab). ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Unfortunately, the security is still up! There's only one episode remaining for Tales from the Borderlands. He also said to tell you he's sorry."Ĭould there be a greater con for a con man to pull off than to cheat death and wait for all the smoke to clear before emerging with all the details he needs to come away with his greatest heist ever? We could be witnessing Felix's master opus. But exactly when did Felix approach her about this? Can we assume that this might have happened after his supposed death? Otherwise, why turn to a bounty hunter to watch over them at all, unless he was sure that his plan to steal the money was going to go off without a hitch? Also, remember the message Athena gave Fiona and Sasha when she told them that he had hired her. There seemed to be a degree of altruism to what he's been doing, his most notable action being to hire Athena to watch over Fiona and Sasha. Over the course of the first four episodes, players have slowly learned that Felix's actions may not have been entirely selfish. Felix's body was never recovered and it stands to reason that he may have indeed escaped with his life, if only slightly worse for the wear, considering how much an exploding briefcase bomb hurts. Given his decades of thieving experience, at what point is it reasonable to wonder whether he had an escape plan in place? He wasn't exactly found in pieces, like Vasquez. Now the problem with this theory is that Felix was… kinda dead when he was last seen, way back at the end of Zer0 Sum. And really, who else would know the ins-and-outs of Pandora the way Felix would? And who would she know better than Felix, the man that raised her? The color motifs of this mystery person match those of many of the game's characters so far, but his wardrobe color scheme of the last episode most notable matched that of Fiona's old father figure. That's the quote from Fiona at the start of Escape Plan Bravo and if she's starting to get a sense of familiarity, then it stands to reason that she might know this person. Likelihood: Makes sense, but don't count on it (Unless, of course, we find out in a future story that he isn't.) While it would be wonderful to learn that Scooter isn't really dead, we'll have to assume he is indeed a casualty of this adventure. We've seen none of these personality traits from our captor. He talks a mile a minute and rambles on like a crazy person. But what would potentially rule Scooter out is his personality. This is a remote possibility, since the motives would make sense. However, he'd also be curious about how the team carried on in the aftermath of his apparent demise, whether the team paid tribute to him or not. Getting the backstory to learn about how Fiona's been using him would feed some of that curiosity, as would the many other lies she and Rhys have been using on their path to a Vault. What would Scooter's motive be? Well, after taking a nosedive on the planet's surface, he's bound to be curious about what set them all on this journey to begin with. What if Scooter actually survived his plunge back to Pandora in Escape Plan Bravo? It's insane to think that he'd be in one piece, so would he be injured enough to require armor and a mask? It's a long shot, but not out of the realm of possibility. Is it safe to rule him out? Not entirely. Would he go so far as to don a mask? Unlikely, especially in the aftermath of Escape Plan Bravo. He was the kind of guy with a noticeable inferiority complex, as evidenced during his many talks with Rhys (primarily the one in Catch A Ride about Rhys ditching him at an old college party) and it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility that Vaughn would still want something out of this entire ordeal on Pandora. He was always the low self-esteem, "try too hard" kind of guy. ![]() But now it looks like Yvette has taken that opportunity and run with it.Īs mentioned in previous "burning questions" features, there were reasons to find Vaughn suspicious that go beyond him simply attempting to bargain with Vasquez in the early episodes. If he was going to do it, it surely would have been to get ahead in Hyperion. And judging by the events of that episode, it doesn't look like he's about to betray the party anytime soon. for the fourth episode, stuck with Cassius in parts unknown. But that episode pretty much turned any negative expectations of Vaughn on their head, just by virtue of his sheer absence. Man, I had this as my pick right before Escape Plan Bravo released. ![]() ![]() ![]() PREDICT the 2023 Emmy nominees through July 12 Hey, Emmy voters - in a world of Karens, be a Beth!
